As this program is supposed to be a long – term program, we always welcome all of you to join us, to become our volunteers. Let’s open your arms to warm up the hearts of the elderly as well as yourself. Let us make your life become truly meaningful!

I. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Project content

The program will be implemented long term starting July 07/2010 with the experimental model in two branches of Thien Phuc elderly nursing home located at Minh Khai, Tu Liem, Hanoi and Dong Ngac, Tu Liem, Hanoi. Volunteer registration for this program will have the opportunity to go to one of these two nursing homes, have direct involvement in the daily operation of nursing as caring, helping the elderly in their everyday activities…..

The beginning of this project will be marked with an exchange session, held on Tuesday 27/7/2010 at Sacred nursing home at Minh Khai commune, Tu Liem, Hanoi. This exchange session will be held between nursing Sacred, the highest age specific clubs from UNESCO and the elderly members, as well as volunteers from Free Hugs Hanoi.

2. Requirements for volunteers:

Currently, we are recruiting volunteers for both programs on 27.7 and long-term program. Volunteers participating in the registration program must meet the following general requirements:
For programs on 27.07:

- Young people who are responsible, enthusiastic, patient and rich in love, in spirit for the community.

- Age: from 15 years old

- Prioritize: people who have artistic capacity to contribute to the program.

For long-term programs:

- Age: from 15 years old

- Having enough time to go to nursing home for at least 6 classes / 3 months.

- Young people who have responsibility, enthusiasm for work assigned.

- Prioritize: people who have experience in caring for elderly people.

Especially now, at the second branch of nursing at Dong Ngac, Tu Liem, Hanoi, there is a very special case in need of your help. Currently there is elderly person who is Japanese and has worked at Japan’s embassy in Vietnam. Due to complications, he can only sit on the wheelchair and being cared for in nursing. However, in nursing, there is no one can speak Japanese or English so there is almost no one who can communicate with him. Therefore, we strongly hope people who have Japanese language capability can join the program to visit and encourage him when he is in this nursing house.

Full Moon Festival 2009

The whole gang

Welcome to FHV!

A very good point this year is the weather. In Viet Nam it’s irritatingly likely to rain when we are going around having fun with lanterns, but today is different. It did rain a little, but the weather soon cleared up, which means none of us got wet, even though we have been going nonstop. And there are good reasons why we kept on going even as rains seemed to be coming…

It took quite sometime to gather around at Youth Cultural Center, because there were so many of us. Apart from FHV members there were also volunteers from HOW, so it was a real crowd. From 5pm, our volunteers started to stick FHV logo onto their shirts and get to know each other (by the way, FHV T-shirts are coming real soon). Dozens of carton boxes were prepared, ready to carry presents to unlucky children near the center of Ho Chi Minh city. Around 100 people were divided into two groups, starting from Youth Cultural Center to various spots such as the Municipal Theater, Turtle Lake, Notre Dame Cathedral, Bến Thành Market. Throughout the trip, we pay special attention to children that we were passing by…

Group 1 headed from Youth Cultural Center towards Notre Dame Cathedral. Group 2 headed from Youth Cultural Center towards Turtle Lake. We each learnt different lessons on the way…

Volunteer Opportunities in September

04:25 AM

Hi guys,

If you are interested in working with very very lovely international volunteers and practice your English, we have good news of a chance for you!

HOW – Helping Orphans Worldwide is a non-profit charity committed to providing hope, health, and security to abused, abandoned, and neglected children living in the most deprived areas of the world. They are coming to Vietnam next month and FHV is very proud to be their partner here.

Here is an overview of HOW’s work at the orphanages in Vietnam:

  • Feeding Orphans Worldwide: HOW addresses the nutritional needs of children living in various orphanages throughout Vietnam. HOW identifies needs, purchases food and nutritional supplements, and hand delivers supplies to ensure proper distribution of goods.
  • Cu Chi Orphanage Renewal Project: HOW discovered an orphanage in a remote area of Cu Chi, Vietnam, where the children are living in desperate conditions. The ability of local staff to provide even basic needs, such as food and clean water is severely hindered due to a lack of funding and the absence of a proper training program for caregivers. HOW has begun the complex process of renewing this facility. We are developing a program that will address everything from nutrition and hygiene, to providing doctors, therapists and other trained professionals to educate caregivers in order to provide long-term sustainability.
  • CHAP (Children’s Healing Arts Program): HOW is committed to enhancing the mental and emotional well-being of these children beyond the basic needs of food and hygiene. Through HOW’s CHAP program, children are able to spend one-on-one time with volunteers, allowing them to express themselves through art, music and dance.

And here are the volunteer opportunities for FHV’s members:

  • We need 1 member to work as HOW Director’s assistant from September 21 – October 19. This person must have excellent english language skills and must be able to basically work as her assistant.
  • We need 3 more members to work with HOW volunteers as interpreters from September 27 until October 4. It will not be for every single day, but make sure that you will be available during this period.

Any transportation costs incurred by any volunteer will be covered by HOW. HOW will also cover lunch, snacks and beverages for all the volunteers. Moreover, each volunteer will receive a HOW T-shirt and bag to signify their involvement with Team HOW.

Registration will be closed on September 8 and we will have a small interview on September 13 to make sure that you can comfortably work with HOW.

Hope to see you soon!

Sorry guys we have enough participants, see you in another campaign.

Volunteer at Huyen Trang Pagoda – Aug 9

08:59 PM

Yesterday (Sunday, 9th August), FHV had a volunteer trip at Huyen Trang pagoda which shelters around 50 orphans, and wow, we had such a great time! This program called “Nutritious meals for Orphans” is to call for society’s attention to daily life of less fortunate children. The first trip was sponsored by Baomoi.

We had many activities there including cooking, raising a collection of books and stationery, playing with the orphans, and giving each child a small gift. The children were all so lovely and our volunteers were very enthusiastic and friendly. We hope to carry out this program every other week.

Here are some pictures from yesterday. Millions of thanks to our photographer Hung Tran. (more…)
